On the new or edit reminder form, find the Reminder Sequence section. Use the Select Sequence control to pick a named sequence instead of the workspace default. If you adjust step timings directly on the reminder (rather than picking a saved sequence), Remindax gives this reminder its own private copy of those steps — the named sequence in Settings is untouched.

When to use a non-default sequence

The workspace default sequence applies automatically. Switch to a named (non-default) sequence when a specific reminder needs:

  • A different cadence (more or fewer touches than your default).
  • Different email/SMS templates than your default.
  • A more aggressive schedule for high-risk items.
  • A gentler schedule for less time-sensitive items.

Before you start

  • Make sure the named sequence you want to apply has been created. See Create a reminder sequence.
  • Know that this is a per-reminder choice — applying a sequence to one reminder doesn't affect any others.

Steps — applying a saved sequence

  1. Create or edit the reminder.
  2. Scroll to the Reminder Sequence section.
  3. Click Select Sequence and pick the named sequence you want for this item.
  4. Save.

The selected sequence's steps will fire for this reminder going forward.

Steps — customising step timings just for this reminder

If you want to tweak step timings on a specific reminder without changing the named sequence:

  1. Open the reminder for editing.
  2. In the Reminder Sequence section, adjust the step rows directly (period, unit, before/after, hour, templates).
  3. Save.

The reminder keeps these private step settings. The named sequence in Settings is NOT modified — only this reminder uses the adjusted steps.

This is useful when one item needs a small variation (e.g., add a 90-day step) without creating a whole new sequence.

How per-reminder steps relate to the named sequence

When you select a sequence and the reminder loads with that sequence's steps:

  • Changing step values on the reminder = giving this reminder its own copy of the steps. The named sequence is untouched.
  • Re-selecting a sequence = the reminder picks up the new sequence's steps again, replacing any private adjustments.

In other words: Settings → Reminder Sequence defines reusable templates of steps; the reminder can either follow one of those templates or carry its own private steps. The choice is per-reminder.

What happens next

  • The reminder's notifications follow the new sequence (or your custom step adjustments).
  • Each step's send time is computed against this reminder's expiration/due date.
  • Steps whose computed send time has already passed show the "may not be sent because the date is in the past" warning. See Why a step won't send.

Edge cases & gotchas

  • Per-reminder edits don't change the named sequence. This is good — it means you can tweak one item without breaking others. But if you want the change everywhere, edit the sequence in Settings instead.
  • Re-selecting a sequence overwrites private adjustments. If you've customised step timings on a reminder and then re-pick the sequence, your custom values are replaced.
  • Recipients are NOT swapped when you change sequence. The reminder's recipients stay; only the cadence/templates change.
  • Past-date steps are skipped with the warning. Setting a long-offset sequence on a near-expiry item means earlier steps won't send.
  • No bulk sequence change — you can't switch sequences on many reminders at once via Explorer bulk actions. Each reminder must be opened individually.

Related questions

  • How do I apply a different sequence to one reminder? Edit the reminder → Reminder Sequence section → Select Sequence → pick the named sequence → save.
  • Can I customise step timings on just one reminder? Yes — edit the steps directly on the reminder. Remindax stores them as a private copy; the named sequence is unchanged.
  • Will my custom step adjustments affect other reminders? No — they're private to that specific reminder.
  • What if I re-pick the named sequence after customising steps? Your custom values are overwritten by the sequence's standard steps.
  • Can I change sequences on multiple reminders at once? No — bulk sequence change isn't supported. Open and edit each reminder.
